How to Read Italian Sign Language / Hand Gestures
The fact is that most people do not realize that Hardcore Italians have their own sign language. It's quite true. Of course, Italian people are very expressive with their hands. Think of Uncle Tony or any of your favorite Italian relatives sitting around the dinning-room table during a big holiday meal. Still, it is important for those than are non-Italian to recognize a few signs that your Italian friend is putting you down, about to beat you senseless, or being a little two faced.
Top Signs Your Italian Friend Is Putting You Down
You tell your pal that you've just purchased this sweet candy apple red sports car and you just got a promotion at work to general manager, while your friend is flipping burgers at a fast food joint for minimum wages. He smiles at you and takes his fingers and strokes his chin. What he is really saying is that he does not give a crap about your amazing luck.
You tell your Italian pal that you are dating his ex girlfriend of 5 years, you've just moved in together, and that she shared intimate details about your rotten sex life. He takes his hand and starts to bite the side of his forefingers. This is a sign that you should move quickly to another zip code because he is going to rip out your lungs.
You remind your new Italian boyfriend, that you are both attending dinner at your parent's house that evening. He hits his forehead with the palm of one hand. No, he is not excited about the plans. He is admitting that the last thing on his mind was dinner with a bunch of boring parents.
You are excited about going sky diving over shark infested water during your vacation. Your Italian friend smiles, but he also takes his index finger and points at his eye and then taps his head, when you start to turn your back. What is he saying? You're an idiot and should be very careful.
