Italian Meats and Meat Dishes

While some of the most popular Italian cuisine is pasta and pizza, these are not the only dishes that Italy offers. The food of Italy is diverse and there are many fantastic meat dishes that vary from one region of the country to the next. Some of the most popular meats and meat dishes are as follows.
1. Veal Parmigiana
Veal parmigiana is not only one of the most popular meat dishes in Italy, it is also one that has become popular internationally. The dish consists of veal that is flattened and then fried before adding cheese, tomatoes, and herbs to the top.
A dish of Sicilian origin, farsumagru is made of rolled meat filled with extra ingredients, usually including egg. Although beef and veal are popular variations of this dish, it is often made with two or more meats rolled together.
3. Bistecca di Maiale Alla Griglia
Grilling is a popular way of cooking meat in Italy and nothing could be more simple than this grilled pork chop dish. The pork chop is usually served with fresh, seasonal, local vegetables.
4. Cotoletta Alla Milanese
As its name suggests, this meat dish originates in Milan. This is a veal cutlet that is coated in breadcrumbs and then fried in butter.
5. Bistecca Alla Florentina
This is a cut of steak you will see on almost every menu in Florence. Although it looks similar to a Porterhouse steak, getting the most out of this meat and cooking it properly is almost an art form. It is a cut of Chianina beef and, when cooked correctly, is tender and flavorsome.
6. L’Uccello Ripieno
L’uccello ripieno is a traditional meal served in homes across Italy. It is a stuffed bird, usually chicken. Although Americans and Europeans will often stuff a bird with food such as rice, bread, herbs or vegetables; the Italians stuff their birds with meat. This creates a hearty meal that serves many more people than a simple chicken served alone.
7. Meat Delicacies
In addition to the fantastic Italian meat dishes, Italy also produces some delicious meat products. Salami, prosciutto, and carpaccio are typical meats you will see in Italian delicatessens. These meats are often served on a platter with cheese and fruit or used as ingredients in other dishes.
