How to Make Your Own Pizza Base
By: Liz Flynn
One of the most popular dishes to come from Italy is pizza and this is a dish enjoyed right across the globe. While this family favorite is readily available in stores around the world, it is much more delicious if you make it yourself. Here is an easy guide on how to make a pizza base to which you can add all your favorite toppings.
1. The Ingredients
2. Making The Base
Stir the flour, yeast and salt together in a large bowl. Pour in the water and oil bringing the mixture together with a wooden spoon. Flour your work surface and then knead the dough for five minutes until you have a smooth ball of dough. Cover the dough with a cloth and set aside for 5 minutes.
3. Make The Sauce
Mix together the passata, crushed garlic and basil. Season to taste with salt and pepper if you wish.
4. Shaping The Dough
Split your dough into two balls and then flour your work surface. Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball into two large rounds. The dough will rise so roll your base quite thin. Place your bases onto floured baking trays.
5. Add Your Toppings
Before adding your toppings, preheat your oven to 240C or gas mark 8. Use the back of a spoon to spread the tomato sauce evenly over the pizza base. Next, add the sliced mozzarella and grated Parmesan. Finally, add your favorite toppings.
6. Cooking Your Pizza
Cook your pizza for approximately 8-10 minutes, or until crisp and golden around the edges.
