Monica Bellucci's full name is Monica Anna Maria Bellucci, making her one of the comparatively few celebrities today who still uses her real first and last name. She was born in the Italian village of Città di Castello, Umbria on the 30th of September, 1964 and is an only child. She was educated at theUniversity of Perugia and was originally going to enter the legal profession.
Modelling was just supposed to be something to earn money on the side when she attended school. However, as is often the case for the people who are models and students, she dropped one half of her life to focus on the other. In this case, Monica Bellucci began modeling full-time and moved to Milan in 1988 and signed on with Elite Model Management.
Her Hollywood film debut came in 1992 in Bram Stoker's Dracula, where she played one of Dracula's beautiful three brides. She had already starred in three Italian films previously, making her film debut in 1990 with the television filmVita coi figli. However, it wasn't until 1996 that she truly became a star with her role in the acclaimed French film The Apartment, where she received a nomination for theCésar award. TheCésar award is more or less the French equivalent of the Oscar in the United States.
While Monica Bellucci comes from a Catholic background, she considers herself an agnostic. The fact that she is fluent in no less than five languages, including French, Italian, English, Spanish, and Persian has managed to give her a much more diverse career throughout the west than many members of her generation.
Monica Bellucci has been known for her physical attractiveness as well as for her immense talent throughout her career. French viewers ofLa Plus belle femme du monde called her the most beautiful woman in the world in 2004. She's been appearing on Maxim's lists of the most beautiful women in the world since the late 1990's, and has posed for Italian men's magazines. She has also managed to maintain her sex symbol status later in life than many other actresses, demonstrating that the rules seem to be different for actresses of her generation, and proving firsthand that many women can stay gorgeous well into middle adulthood. At 51, she was the oldest actress to play a Bond Girl in 2015.
Monica Bellucci has managed to live in two different worlds in many ways. She has managed to have a successful Hollywood career without really being part of Hollywood culture. She's a household name to the people in the United States, and yet has managed to have a successful career in the Italian film industry as well.
She has said that she rejects certain aspects of Hollywood culture, and that is why she doesn't truly want to be part of it. In particular, she rejects Hollywood's fixation on extreme youth and thinness, and has managed to have a much more well-adjusted career as a result by all accounts.
